What are the symptoms for pain during sex?

I am married for about 3 years. We had premature birth about 4 months ago and my baby girl died before birth. We had sex many times after that but last night my wife suddenly had to much pain and we stopped. What would be the reason for pain, plz someone help me here....

could be gas, or could even be her period coming on soon.
if it keeps coming back she should probably see her doctor.
also appendicitis is a possibility may not have anything to do with the sex
